Slide Rescue F.A.Q’s
How will my slides be scanned?
We use only Nikon “Coolscan” slide scanners that generate no heat and give amazing levels of clarity and sharpness. Each slide is scanned at a high-resolution 4000 dpi (dots per square inch).
We do not “batch scan”. Each slide is individually appraised and assessed. Using Nikon’s class-leading post-production software, dust and small imperfections are eliminated. Dark or underexposed slides are digitally enhanced to reveal previously unseen detail and colour (we also supply you with a disk containing the “raw” scans without any enhancement so you can compare the difference!).
Each images is then centred, cropped, correctly rotated and saved.
CD or DVD?
Your choice of format largely depends upon the size and amount of images to be stored. A recordable CD (Compact Disk) will provide 700MB of space and will store between 30 and 150 images (dependent on file sizes) scanned at 4000 dpi. A DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) will provide 4.7GB of space, allowing between 200 and 1000 images to be stored!
What is a DVD Video Slideshow?
As well as storing large amounts of images, DVD’s can also play a slide show of your images on your television set through most DVD players, or on your computer via it’s own DVD Player software (you will need a computer with a DVD drive and the relevant software included). You will need to check your DVD player’s compatibility with DVD-R before ordering.
A DVD slideshow includes the images we have scanned for you and is created in a standard format with a menu. Each slide show can have a maximum of 99 images, and we recommend a maximum of 8 slide shows per disk. You can specify what each slide show is to be called and even supply us with an audio CD so we can add music! (all slideshows will have a classical music added by default). A slide show with 99 images will last around 10 minutes – excellent for professional presentations or reliving lost memories!
Can I add Pictures to my disks?
No. To ensure protection of your digital images, we use only “write once” CD-R and DVD-R disks.
How will my disks be presented?
All disks are professionally finished with a printed CD label with a picture from your archive. You can even specify a title such as “family album” or “my projects”. All disks are stored in clear jewel CD cases.
How are my files saved?
All images are saved as JPEG files (Joint Photographic Experts Group) and in RGB format (Red, Green, Blue) files by default. Images can also be saved as Tiff files (Tagged Images File Format) and converted to CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, Black) on request and at no extra charge.
How are my slides Shipped & & Handed?
When we receive your slides, we will email you with notification of receipt. When we complete your order, your slides will be securely packaged with your disks, and returned to you via Special Delivery postage with insurance up to £500. We aim to return your slide archive within 14 working days, but larger quantities may require additional turn-around time.
